Advice for parents for them to monitor their kid’s/Adolescent’s Social Media usage.

Social media has become a Pre-dominant attribute of teenagers’ lives. Although parents may expect their young ones to spend their time in reality, the fact that social media shall is here and shall continue to prevail, remains.
Appreciatively, there are a few measures that parents can take to ensure that their children remain safe when they use social media. Here are a few steps that will help you protect your teen from the detrimental facets of social networking sites:

  •   Define the fundamental regulations for usage of gadgets which the teens must adhere to:  Before you give your kids access to a computer, phone and social media accounts, set some   rules related to the content your adolescents can view.
  •   Enable strict privacy settings wherever applicable: All the devices our kids use should have   strict privacy settings.
  •    Age restrictions: It is mandatory for adolescents to be more than 13 years of age for them to   access and use social media sites.
  •    Socialization: Research has shown that social media can enhance social connections and   communication and can form an important aspect of your child's life. This is not a new feature   in the lives of kids today – it is their normal way of communicating.
  •    Collective/Cluster learning:  Adolescents may leverage certain beneficial features of social       networking sites to better understand and execute projects and assignments in groups.
  •    Permanence: Once something is online, it's there to stay. College admission offices & future     employers are all likely to check your child's social networking profiles.
  •    Cyber-bullying: According to the Department for Education, “most children have been   involved in cyber-bullying in some way, either as a victim, perpetrator, or bystander.”
  •   Time management: Time and sleep are both precious commodities for adolescents. The     pressure to be on social media can lead to poor sleep quality and an increased risk of anxiety   and depression.
  •   Find a home for the computer: Keeping your computer in a central location makes it easier to   keep an eye on your adolescent's online activity.
